Boone Race Recap
Author: Bake
The Boone race went better than I expected. With my level of training right I knew I was in for a tough day on Iowa’s toughest course. To add insult to injury they had added 1.5 miles of new trail up there. It held up to typical Seven Oaks riding with lots of off camber and climbing. Throw in an occasional tight switchback to make sure you’re awake.
I actually got a better start than normal and was able to hold that position for a while. I yo yo’ed with a couple guys for a little bit finally getting by the one. About ½ way thru my final lap the legs starting cramping and I knew I was in trouble. I pushed thru what I could but eventually had to get off the bike and stretch. Once my hammies starting going too it was no more stretching. Trying to do either muscle resulted in the other cramping. Arrrggghh….so now I had to keep the legs unlocked and moving. I knew if I could just make it out of the tough section and back up top (a short 2 miles away) I’d be okay and it’d be mostly downhill from there. I knew no one was real close behind me so I just found a good pace and held on.
Finally making the top section I finally started to notice an Irwin’s rider (later figured out it was Ron Degeest) starting to gain time on me. On the last turn I saw him and Kyle Sedore just about ready to get behind me. Since it was all downhill I just let off the brakes and hoped for the best. My simple plan worked.
All in all it was a good day for me call things considered. I was really worried if my legs would be there after a lack of riding this winter. Surprisingly I still had my climbing power but just not the fitness to go for distance. Still I finished better than I thought I would. Next up in Camp Ingawanis in Waverly.

Big props to Taylor Webb for a nice race. Looks like I won't be rubbing handlebars with him any time soon. If Jacob ever figures out his training schedule dude will be fighting for podium spots. He had an off day and wasn't running at 100%. He took 8th out of 50 at a race 2 weeks ago but didn't have his legs primes today.
And we’re off….I’m there in the middle.
Jacob finishing up.
Me after finishing and looping around the building once. Right now I’m wondering how to get off my bike without my legs cramping up.
John Conlan makes it look easy.
Cam smoking em all for the overall win.

It was nice seeing you out Mike. Its not as hard finding time to train due to the fact I just have to worry about my wife and dog :) Maybe kids some day. I just hope I can stay up there with Jacob N.
Dude that 3rd pic. is freaking me out, photoshop??? what the hell???
Peace and great job:)!
